SAINT JOHN, New Brunswick, May 16, 2023— Family Plus is thrilled to announce the highly-anticipated grand opening of Kit’s Place, a cutting-edge Child and Youth Advocacy Centre in Saint John, New Brunswick. This state-of-the-art facility represents a significant milestone in our commitment to supporting and safeguarding the well-being of children and youth in our community.
Kit’s Place provides services to children and youth who have been victims of sexual assault; giving them access to a safe environment that will support them and their families as they begin their healing journey. By bringing together multidisciplinary professionals and services under one roof, Kit’s Place is revolutionizing the way we address the complex needs of vulnerable young individuals in our community.

Kit’s Place is based off of a world-renowned model for Child and Youth advocacy centers, adopted by leading organizations across the United States and Canada. Using a client-centred approach in a child-friendly, safe environment, Kit’s Place ensures collaborative, coordinated help for youth and their families. The model works to minimize trauma by limiting the number of interviews and touchpoints for the victim. Services are delivered by a partnership of trusted agencies, who have the proper resources for the investigation, treatment, management, and prosecution of child and youth sexual abuse. The grand opening of Kit’s Place will take place on May 18th in the freshly opened and newly designed Family Plus facility located in the Lancaster Mall. Distinguished community leaders, government officials, board members, and esteemed supporters will join Family Plus in celebrating this momentous occasion. The event will feature inspiring speeches and interactive guided tours of the facility to showcase the comprehensive services available.

Kit’s Place operates as its own centre, separate from Family Plus. Each room in this brand-new facility has been designed and decorated specifically for children and youth, aimed at creating a calming and welcoming environment for them. The centre will house a dedicated team of compassionate professionals including specially trained therapists, social workers, medical personnel, law enforcement, and legal advocates. By coordinating efforts and sharing expertise, these professionals will work collaboratively to provide comprehensive assessments, therapeutic interventions, legal support, and social services tailored to the unique needs of each child and family.
